PostSubject: Re: Second Life   Second Life - Page 5 EmptySat 30 Jul - 14:41

Tonight , I awaked at 2 am to piss , scuse to say, LOL.
I opened the puter to answer a pupil of mines ,on Facebook.
I only do that when they are sleeping ,to avoid them jumping on me.
But Thyme jumped on me , LOL .
It was nice to have some news from him , long time not seen.

He shown me

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TlIn35BuNfU , a vid about SL supporting Meshes.

I was on the way to re go bed , but I was curious to check that stuff.
After googleing ,I installed

http://download.cloud.secondlife.com/project-viewers/mesh/Second_Life_2-2-1-211639_ProjectViewer-Mesh_Setup.exe

It took me a time to find "My inventory",in that new version of SL,
and to find a place to test , but Google found me a "Mesh sandbox" in SL.
All is free , you just could see the objects you import , during only 24 hours...

So , I saw that I could "import" "objects" from "My inventory" ...
They must be in *.DAE.

I tested with two 3ds max files I have , (imported from VRML).
I had , then , to export them in FBX, then to convert the FBX to DAE with

"Autodesk FBX Converter 2012", witch is free.

The first test made a crappy "MixED"....

Second Life - Page 5 MeshviewerSL1max

Second Life - Page 5 MeshviewerSL1

The second test made nothing from a "Zoe" I got years ago from seamless3d.

Second Life - Page 5 MeshviewerSL1maxZoe

Second Life - Page 5 MeshviewerSLZoe

I guess we must define the "values" ...??...dont know....

It was 5 am , I went to bed Smile

ps , on the other hand , I have no idea if a DAE could be animated ....
( "my" Zoe in 3dsmax was just a mesh )

Congrats on being the first to import a mesh from seamless into SL Alain Mr. Green

After seeing this youtube:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wnOk_xtVrJQ

It would seem you can even import skinned meshes for animation so finally it looks like it’s possible to import an animated Lucy into SL !

My guess is the colours for Zoe/Lucy will need to be converted to textures but seamless has a feature for doing this Mr.Red

PostSubject: Re: Second Life   Second Life - Page 5 EmptyTue 2 Aug - 21:04

The link for the viewer you have here is already out of date Alain.

To get the latest you should download from:

http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Linden_Lab_Official:Alternate_Viewers#Mesh_Import

I have not got the viewer to work yet.
First time I try it says update your drivers for your video card.
After doing that it says I must update my second life viewer lol
I decide to this time let it do an automatic update but it failed after the download was complete !
So I am now downloading the installer for the mesh viewer for a 3rd time, hope it works.
At least this trouble makes me feel good about how seamless must be one of the easiest 3d chat program to use Mr.Red

well , lOL thanx , I installed the last one ...

Then I spent a longtime to find a sandbox but I found one at least ...

I went to test uploading a mesh and it had been said to me :
go to that url **** and make that tutorial
with your account ...

It is a tutorial with 10 questions about intelectual property etc .

I got 8/10 LOOL and "they" said "OK you can upload" ...

I re went to the same sandbox and I got the same

"your can"t upload" argggg....

2 guys were here , frenchies , I asked them .
They were nice and explained that I had also to pay a bit ....what I dindt the step before ....

And will not , LOL

Try to find a free place , LOL , Thyme , for the moment I prefer the previous version I tried 2 days ago LOOOOOL , it was free to upload Smile))

But may be this place will come back , don't know ......

PostSubject: Re: Second Life   Second Life - Page 5 EmptyTue 2 Aug - 23:28

I think perhaps I missed the boat and it is no longer so easy to test Alain Sad
I spent a lot of time wondering what I had to do just to upload a mesh Sad
I did my 10 questions about intellectual property rights and passed it with 9 out of 10 lol
But could still not upload so I filled in the pay registration form which requires a credit card or paypal account but I think you may not have to pay any real money if you have some linden money which I think they give you for free for these tests, I hope so !
I got my upload mesh status but so far have failed to get a simple lathe mesh into SL
I can view the lathe in the upload control panel so I guess the file is ok but I can not get any further with it Sad

well , it seems we are on the same step ...

What is the location where you test ??
I found that :

Mesh Testing Sandbox 0, Mesh Sandbox 0 (164, 174, 23) - General

and you ???

May be there is a more free zone somewhere ..,????????

I managed to upload a simple mesh without paying any real money (as far as I know) and it is now stuck on the end of my SL avatar’s hand lol. Not sure exactly when and how I uploaded the mesh but I think perhaps you just have to weight a while after pressing the calculate fee button. I am wondering now how to get the texture onto it.

Sorry I missed you Alain.
I sent you a message in second life but it said you were no longer online
I tried to upload a new mesh and got told I could not and said I have to register !
It says: “Don't worry, getting registered is easy!”
It does not seem to remember my registration info any more. What a pain this is !!!!

yes I saw you offline too , I tried 2 times , LOL

bad timing Sad

BTW I saw too the stupid "getting registred is easy" ,
I did nothing more , but tried the tutorial ,
as you did ,
and after that they said , under my accunt , that I was OK ...

So , I guess that the only thing we missed , is not the registration ,
but the payement , LOL .

Indeed these Linden , or how they are called , they must pay us ! because we are very patient with their stupid stuff , LOOOL

PostSubject: Re: Second Life   Second Life - Page 5 EmptyWed 3 Aug - 18:01

I can not be sure of anything alain as it is all new to me but to my understanding there has been an update in the policy beginning this month (August).

To my understanding you can still upload meshes without spending real money if you have some linden money but the catch is if you want to upload a mesh you must register to upload meshes which involves giving your credit card/paypal details but that does not mean you have to give any of your real money to SL, that is my understanding.

Here is a link to the SL mesh forum:

http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Mesh/bd-p/Mesh

Looking at some of the posts there others are having the same problems I have had in not being able to upload.

Hello Alain and Thyme !
I see you make a great work about SL
It sure would be a good thing importing vrml in it. Years ago people said me it was possible but not for free. I began to build a little with their system too. It was interressant but after that to use your objects it means having a place and that is neither free..
So i'll look here what you are doing. Now i'm not at home and have a wifi connection which is not very fast (even very low..) so i cant really look videos, and cant imagine going in SL !
perhaps in september when i'll be back you'll have resolved all the problems Smile !

kisses

Hi Meribastet and Alain Mr.Red
Sorry I did not immediately reply Meribastet, I did mean to after I found out some more.
I have had more success importing meshes into SL and I think I understand it better now since I last wrote here.
I plan to do more experiments but my current project of creating speech using nurbs has taken much of my time but I will come back and experiment and write about how to import meshes into SL soon I hope.

If buying and selling goes against your principles Alain you should be able to do it all for free if you use an alternative server such as the OpenSimulator:

http://opensimulator.org/wiki/FAQ

I know very little about it but I do know the OpenSimulator is open source software under the BSD (simular to seamless’s MIT licence), it uses SL protocol and so lets you use SL viewers.

SL viewers are open source under the GPL license by the way.
