SOME SUCCESS TODAY, PETER!-- I adapted the functional parts of Floppy's Tutorial "teleporter" proto example into the top of 2 of my world files (beach & circus-x}, expanded the proximity sensitivity ratio to 200 200 200, and set its Anchor URL to #VIEWPOINT (being my intended DEF VIEWPOINT), and it works!
It even allows beach's entry viewpoint animation.
However, like you said, Background is still cancelled (I suspect fog or Fog2 as well). I suspect lighting has some issues. Notice in x-beach-x that multitexturing of the sea seems present and animated but almost totally transparent, and possibly distorted-- that might be a lighting issue.
