indeed , scuse to tell it , but for my opinion ,
I will never love guys who put a floating logo on your art work ,
or "use" it to make money ,

I prefer porn sites , if you go there you know where you go ,
it is more clear ..

scuse about the example

Rory Hart, the Head of Development of ExitReality, has given an answer today in the comments of my article. This note has also be sent to some virtual worlds forums.
They provide you two ways to prevent your objects and models to be incorporated to their search engine: the robots.txt file and the referrer in the http header.

This is a good starting point to correct something that has upset many worldbuilders, and I congratulate Rory Hart for this act.

I published it in this article:
http://news.hiperia3d.com/2008/09/solution-from-rory-hart-of-exit-reality.html

As requested, here's my feedback:
"ExitReality should not index anything without the prior consent of the builder. The builder should not do anything to prevent this.

Other software companies, like Vivaty or 3DXplorer, have their own object catalogs built by themselves, or rewarding the creators (that have previously given permission to use their objects and scenes).
ExitReality takes a great advantage over these other companies taking objects for their software without asking.

This is not how copyright works. You should ask first, and then use -- not the opposite: use first unless I forbid you to do it.

Anyway, Hiperia3D News' purpose is just give the news, not to take part on anything of this. Now it's time for worldbuilders to negotiate this. ExitReality has taken a first step and one thing is for sure: they listen the feedback. "

The thing is ExitReality's search works like google, it finds a link to say Omind's site from mine. Then it indexes the content on Omind's site. The problem is while google links to the html, ExitReality links direct to the 3d, and provides no link to the html pages at all.

I would rather compare it with google images.

By the way, Google seems to have been forced to change the way the image search links to the search results : at a beginning, the links did open the image and a link to the document where it was found and now it leads directly to the document and provides a link to the image.

Unfortunately, you never will certainly know if the document where google did find the image is published by the owner of the copyright. Same would apply for ER's search engine if it would add a link to the document embedding the wrl or to the document linking to the wrl, it could be just another vrml repository.

So far, it seems impossible that any search engine, as far as it is searching the entire www for media, will ever be compliant with strict copyright laws.

But still I think that such a search engine has got it's upsides and I would welcome if worldbuilders and ER could meet an agreement on how it should be carried out.

In my oppinion, the worst ending would be if ER is forced to drop it's search engine concept.

Heh I've seen that in google images search, images are on one site, content is on another Sad

Easy solution, if its not from the same domain as the html document linking to it, find the proper homepage (or guess). Shouldn't be hard to implement that in the search engine.

The search engine is not a search engine as we know it.

All these technologies of independent 3d worlds are not communities. ER is for having your 3d mini-space.

The search engine is a catalog, not a real search engine.

Users can take pieces of that catalog and add them to their spaces, and can alter any 3d world with them. Then, that modified world is stored as "My stuff".

If translated to Google, it may be as if Google opened the images directly on Photoshop to edit and use them.

Other companies build their own catalogs or reward creators to add their works to them. Example of good behavior companies: Vivaty, 3DXplorer.

I wanted to not post more here , because the serious topic is on WBand

or on THyme's forum ..

etc

But I really wonder how all that works ...

for instance we "joked" weeks ago with isa why ER doenst found her nice worlds

( or others from legloups etc )

I just re check "isa" as keyword in ER search engine , and yes they got nothing Sad

I had the idea to type too "louizeForum" and I see 6 worlds I made ..
why 6 ? LOL

one is named "forbelle"

it was a quick world for Belle just after she died ..

"forbelle" ... Sad(( is all that serious ????

Most probably they are saying "Title" when they should say "filename".

If your world is called "alaincylinder.wrl" they will say it's title is "alaincyilinder" and if your world is called "forbelle.wrl" they entitle it "Forbelle". It is just the result of automation.

Probably they've got a whole bunch of worlds called "world" and "entry" ... lol.

But again : If you parse worldInfo nodes all over the Web, you most often will get no title at all, and a description something like : "this world has been created with Spazz3D" ... so : how if we learn a bit out of our mistakes...

Lol.

luv U anyways, pirate.

OK ,

let's play with the automat

I added that WorldInfo

Code:
    WorldInfo {
  title   "a stupid cylinder"
  info   "sorry :("
}

and uploaded the new version ..

http://dumenieu.free.fr/vrml/forum/cylindrealain.wrl

we will see if the robot get it LOL

..

more seriously I hear friends who are telling me that
if any robot could help the web3D to be up , it is good .

I agree .

But they are several ways to be up .
