| Well done Jicer and thanks for persisting When you pose a model in animation mode you will be able to see which bone best owns a vertex. You can paint ownership color codes to vertices while in animation mode too. | |

I made some tries with: by converting vrml: http://www.costoso.net/wakka.php?wiki=WebGl "full screen possible"
I'm not strong enough to tecniquement keyboard keys to the displacement, so I leave it as basic https://github.com/x3dom/x3dom/tree/master/example

| The embedded 3D scene works very well Jicer. I am very impressed with WebGL. I understand x3dom uses an x3d layer on top of WebGL but I don't see any real advantage in having an X3D layer because of all the restrictions that come with X3D (that you don't get with WebGL) and I am doubtful the deferred events of X3D (which I hate and which few understand) can be done legally using JavaScript without a lot of ugly complexity. I have some fond memories of VRML but whenever I think of X3D for long it always depresses me or it makes me feel angry with the way it was poorly designed and the misconception of it being an open standard designed by the people, which it is not. I feel X3D only exists today because it is treated like a religion and because people like me foolishly supported it. This is why I want to make it clear I have no love for X3D and I don't see the point in it.

I am very very tired by all these technologies, after more than 10 years , I alway get friends telling me "sorry , alain , I got nothing from your link".. ( They use IE and not Firefox, or they have a Mac , etc etc.. It is very boring.. So I decided recently to make only VIDEOS from my vrmls

| Thyme thank you! for your lighting, but how do you learn how to make webgl "graphic" javascript without using crutches (glge, x3dom, jsthree)? tell me or find for beginner? @alain : comment faites vous pour trouver le sources? il s'agit de javascript aussi ? non? - Code:
-
[...] <html><head> <title>WebGL Water</title> <script src="lightgl.js"></script> <script src="cubemap.js"></script> <script src="renderer.js"></script> <script src="water.js"></script> <script src="main.js"></script> [...]
le contenue des javascript ? c'est cela? mais les jsthree et x3dom aussi sont des javascript ? contained in the javascript? Is that correct? but jsthree and x3dom are also javascript? I do not understand anything, I'll stop 3D

| Jicer what was my avatar using in that WebGL chat world? I understand it was converted from VRML/X3D but it was not using x3dom to animate? I see no problem using VRML/X3D for holding the mesh data for WebGL but to simulate ROUTEs is when it starts to feel like religion for me. For example no one can explain to me why: ROUTE nodeA.field to nodeB.field is any friendlier or intuitive than: nodeB.field = nodeA.field ? It is not just the semantics I don't like, X3D’s deferred events makes things less friendly for scripting. for example nodeB.vec3f.x = nodeB.vec3f.x + 1; should do nothing if it is a legal X3D browser because fields do not update more than once for each frame but you wont have this problem with WebGL. Also it is worth pointing out OpenGL (what WebGL is based on) has been around long before VRML Alain the interactive water example does not use Java, it uses only JavaScript so there is no need to install java. I am sorry to hear you have had trouble with not everyone being able to see your 3d work when you use WebGL. Perhaps I am lucky to use chrome as my default browser but how is installing chrome a disadvantage to installing blaxxun contact? Alain I understand the water uses complex scripts but this is not something that can be achieved any easier using X3D? I am not sure if you can even do this with a current X3D browser so WebGL can not be judged to be disadvantaged here. The water is a little slow on my computer but considering how long it would take povray to do each frame, I am very impressed by its speed and this would not slow down a more modern video card using the latest tricks. Jicer there is nothing wrong with using graphic" javascript libraries" If you find x3dom useful to you use it but my guess is much better high level libraries could be written (if they do not already exist) that do not have the obstacle of trying to be compatible with X3D. It is important to understand there is no more need to understand how a script library works than to understand how the C++ code for a plugin like blaxxun contact works, you just have to know how to utilize it. The advantage however of using scripts instead of plugins is you have many more possibilities than when you are dependent on hardwired functions. I wish I had more time to play with WebGL using seamless and hope to soon but I need to remain focused on the new modelling features i am currently developing if i am to get it ready by May. Please never let a standard (or lack of one) prevent you from making 3d Art, there is so much more to making 3D art than writing scripts. For me the most important thing is to learn how to sculpt original looking models and we always have movie formats to show our work to the world | |

reason why I said "it is not for newbies" If you had newbie friendly 3d modeling software written specifically for adding this water to a WebGL scene, it would be very easy for anyone to be able to utilize this water script.

| I am not a mathematician ! No one has to learn C++ to make use of it but there is a big misconception that because it has less limitations than a simpler language it is somehow more difficult to use to do simple things when in reality this: if(a == b){ d = a; } is identical whether you use, C++ or JavaScript; (they are almost identical languages to do simple things especially if you use a high level library for C++) What I like about C++ is it comes closer to the ideal of giving one Anarchy to be creative, it does not come with a load of rules and regulations to reduce the programmer to behaving like robot. Anything that can be expressed with a language like VRML can be expressed with a language like C++ using about the same number of lines of code (with the help of a high level library) so if you use C++ you have nothing to loose but but your chains! (to quote Marx lol). JavaScript/WebGL may not have the power of C++ but if you only want to write animation scripts I don't think this is a big problem. The great news is I have just heard from Miranda wishing me a happy birthday and says she will try to visit in Seamless chat (which by the way uses C++ script just like JavaScript to do the animations) | |

| Thanks for the birthday wishes Alain and Jicer and thanks again Alain for the lovely C++ avatar gift you made me I will be in seamless chat at the usual time of 20:00 o'clock for my party but I am not sure if Miranda will be able to make it as she says her computer broke and will have to use her brother's old computer which has only windows 98. The problem is I do not know if the current version of seamless will still work for windows 98, it has been years since I have tested win98. I would like to make it so seamless can work on these very cheap Google tablet computers that are so popular these days. It would be lovely to see Miranda again (I was unable to see her last year because we had no internet) but if she can not make it to my party I will still be delighted to know she is OK and alive | |
