| Hi Alain and Jicer Here is your bat Jicer “rigged” (as they say) and animated using Seamless3d. http://www.seamless3d.com/jicer/jicer-bat.smls To do this: I right clicked on the vrml Shape node and selected convertToSeamless I found I had to check the IndexedFaceSet’s convex check box (the default vrml setting) first for this to work. I deleted the Transform node as it was not needed. I then compile transformed (statically transformed) the bat so that it is facing the screen. (I can explain how i did this later as it is not that important to learn how to rig and animate) I added a skeleton of bones much the same way as explained in the nurbs lathe avatar tutorial (the robot demo shows how to do this too) : http://www.seamless3d.com/nurbs-lathe-avatar/ I then clicked on the Easter egg button to put seamless into coloured ownership mode and used the rectangle selection tool to paint the parts ownership to the mesh. The rectangle selection tool is used by holding down the left shift key while dragging with the mouse. This is shown in my online video tutorial Beginners Skinning & Poly-Morphing Animation Tutorial Using Free 3D Modelling Software: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4WtwgvveSTk This video has text under the video for all my narration with time points you can click on. After the bat is rigged, animating it is identical to how I animated the nurbs lathe avatar shown in that tutorial. I left the file in coloured ownership mode. To toggle out just click the Easter egg button | |

| hi Thyme ! tell me once erect the model, how the file weighs? I wonder if the seamless animation produced "baked" keys animation or if you use the interpolation functions of VRML and thus producing a final file leger. I think it will be a real motivation to do things with seamless I'll try to get seamless realize this but you who have written seamless. me saying (if you understand my words because once translated it become very crazy thank you again jacinto | |

| Hi Jicer , CoordinateInterpolator nodes wont be generated for your bat when it is output. It will be a "skinned" animated model (blaxxun avatar studio avatars, HAnim avatars and most 3d computer games use skinned models), so the animation data will be small. All of the weights for the vertices in the smls file for your bat are set to 1 but my video tutorial shows how you can set weights to fractions too. I am not sure I understood your question but I am sure in time you will understand how to rig a mesh using seamless. Seamless is a lot easier for rigging models since I added colour coding and the rectangle selection tool for painting the ownership but it always takes time getting familiar with a program no matter how easy it is If you get stuck on what to click on please let me know so I can take a screenshot.

| Seamless should need less the need for a tutorial to learn but unfortunately there are still some unfriendly bugs for beginners. Can you get the robot demo to work in seamless Jicer for the nurbs lathe avatar demo on your computer? http://www.seamless3d.com/nurbs-lathe-avatar/ This way the robot teaches how to make a skeleton of parts without the need to understand English (the robot shows the steps) If you don't understand what I mean here, Alain can you explain this simple but crucial step in French for me please? kind regards PS important buttons for making a skeleton: and hold down right control key and click on 3d window to add new part (bone) | |

| Thanks Jicer You must convert the vrml Shape node to a native Seamless node (The Seamless node contains the bones (parts) for editing) To do this, right click on the Shape node in the scene tree window (count 5 nodes down in the scene tree window to arrive at the green node), and select convertToSeamless. If you do not understand my words, I can take a screenshot to show which node to right click on. | |

Do you now see one blue bone in the scene tree window (after selecting converToSeamless from menu)? | |

| I saw your textured bat animation in Seamless Jicer, Looks great But I find I have to check the convex checkbox to see anything, don’t you too have to do this? I do not know why seamless is having trouble loading the x3dv file directly from Maya. I will see if i can fix this for new version, I am sure it's something simple to fix. | |

| Thanks for the screenshot jicer, I very much appreciate this so that I know where we are at OK now you have a bone selected in the scene tree window (as shown in your screenshot), you can now add more bones. First check(tick) the mirror check box (shown in your screenshot) so that both left and right bones will be added simultaneously. Click to turn on X-Ray mode (this will show a yellow dot which represents the bone’s pivot point) Click so that the bone’s pivot point can be dragged to a different position and so that new bones can be added by holding down the right control key while clicking on the 3d window. When you have added bones for the backbone and wings, please post a screenshot for me or if you have problems doing this, let me know so that I or Alain may help. Amicalement | |

| Hi Jicer Your mesh is not a problem for seamless. I tested it with your textured mesh and I was able to add bones. However something went wrong once when I added a bone when a vertex was already selected but otherwise it worked fine. To keep everything as simple as possible and to begin with a clean slate, try only this first: Close down seamless (the whole program if it is open) Start Seamless (don’t open any file) Click Click Hold down the right control key while clicking on the 3d window This should result in a new pivot point (a new bone) each time you click in the 3d window while the right control key is held down.
