Now that Blaxxun is offline the Blaxxun communities that still exist have even less hope of surviving. We all know that Blaxxun has not updated their products in 5 years and their product is buggy with lack of support for the newer OSs. Those of us who have purchased licenses got suckered into a pending dilemma. With the license being tied to the IP address of the server, you can't change IP addresses without getting a new key from Blaxxun. Now that they are gone, there will be no new keys. ISPs bring about changes to IP addresses on a regular basis to their customer and with the upcoming migration to IPv6 most every Blaxxun site will be impacted.

My purpose of posting this message is not to preach doom and gloom because most have seen the writing on the wall for some time; so my purpose is to see what platform/server products people are looking to for fulfilling the VRML/X3D community needs. I am not sure there are any (at least that an independent, small company can buy). Does anyone know of any turn-key solutions for VRML/X3D communities? How about turn-key 3D community server software (only one I know of is ActiveWorlds)?

If you haven't planned for this inevitability, it is time to start planning...

I don't recognize those NICs. I run a Blaxxun site, I don't chat on other Blaxxun sites. So how is it that you say you know me?

Each of your emails are different and talk of different things so this is very confusing to me. Please explain in detail what it is that you are asking. If you are asking for help then I need to know what OS, what hardware, what version of Blaxxun, site name, what problems you are having, etc. Lots of details would be needed.

Me, I am in Romania, in Bucarest. I am mechanical engineer, and I like numeric modeling and scripting languages . I like to test any 3D aplication.

Probably You know, the Blaxxun public Server is down. Also, probably You know, many people from the world use that server from Germany, but unfortunately, now is down. And me, and ather guys, I look for alternatives.
1) 'ABNet server', is free
2) '7 Platform server' is for testing, and without ful options
3) 'BS Collaborate sever', is for testing, and You know that 'BS Contact' client in trial version ...

The best solution is to use '7 Platform', because is nice and handly.

That nicks are blaxxun community users. Probably, You not use that german server, because You have own server.

Boss that is all ... nothing is not wrong !
none hackers, none viruses, all is normaly ...

If You have time, and can help us with Your experience about Blaxxun Server, is good for us.

Anyway our chat servers is just for testing, not for comercial use. Is just an hobby, Boss ! And ofcuorse will use the professional community, like Yours !

From the first, I tell You: BlaxxunServer can run on my PC, with admin/admin, he accept only 3 users, and no sound. Is an evaluation version of '7 Platform' ... Ofcuorse i wos online with him, and it work !

2) winXP pro 2001 with IIS 5.2
3) '7 Platform' evaluation version, year 2003

This is much better. Now I understand where you are coming from. Yes, Blaxxun is down and perhaps gone forever. No one knows for sure but they are not responding to emails or phone calls. As far as VRML solutions ABNet2 and BS Collaborate are two alternatives but both require the BS Contact client and both have no framework for user or object management. I spoke with the author of ABNet2 and he has no plans to take his software further. I have been communicating with the BS Collaborative company but they seem to be headed in a different direction. There are a number of "projects" and initiatives going on to develop a VRML/X3D platform. I am in contact with all the major Blaxxun community owners and a number of other people who are involved with various initiatives/projects to try to figure out what the follow-on platform solution will be to replace Blaxxun Platform 7. Soon I will be opening a mail list and forums dedicated to this topic.

I have a very large server class machine with lots of storage and bandwidth. If you and your friends would like to join forces with us at United3D then I can set-up the developer's with a means to host their projects from the United3D site. Also, for objects and places that you would like to share with the United3D community, I can let you join our Developer's team to create stuff for the site and have multi-user worlds linked from the Community and if you create objects we can allow these to be sold from our Mall. Please spread the word to your friends!

What's in the Future? We all remember those stirring days when dragons escaped from the Phantasia Hatchery and residents were called upon to find them. A shocking discovery was made: some of those escaped dragons were pregnant! Now the search is on for dragon eggs. As always, prizes are being offered. Someone is even going to win a cute cuddly baby dragon of their very own. I asked officials at the Phantasia Hatchery what should be done when the baby grows up. We'll have to get back to you on that. Meanwhile, all United3D residents: FIND THOSE EGGS!

When you are a resident of United3D, you never know what's going to happen next.

New Time For Bingo!

Based on preliminary voting, Bingo has been changed from Saturday to Friday nights at 9 pm (United Time, a.k.a. EST)

For those residents who have not yet voted, they can still do so by going to the Community Center and clicking ELECTIONS on the side panel. (Voting will be open until the end of May) We know our residents are scattered over the world in different time zones. Our aim is to give everyone a chance to play this most excellent game. If necessary, we will rotate the Bingo day and time to accommodate as many people as possible.

I think they should be recognized. Therefore, I will pick people at random that I see and post a note on the Plaza Board that begins: I SPY (insert your name here). If that person responds to the post within 24 hours, they will be awarded 5K as our way of saying THANKS for making United3D their home. You'll never know where or when I will see you, but if you read the Plaza Message Board you won't miss out.

Coming Soon... The Anniversary Project!

Residents should also be honored on the anniversary of their registration date at United3D. Therefore, we will be putting together a list of the people we see logged into the Community and award them a 5K prize on that day. All residents may apply to be added to this list. Simply inbox Adriana or leave a post on the Message Board at the Mayor's Office.

Recently introduced: The Numbers Crunch, an ongoing weekly game where I will think of a number between 1 and 100. The residents may post their guesses on the Plaza Board. The closest guess to the correct number without going over will win 5K. Each game will be posted Sundays on the Plaza Message Board and the winner announced the following Sunday.
