Yes, yesterday I started looking for a chat client to host at my website and hey! -- the blaxxun Developer version sounds sufficient for my purposes. Like a guest book (maybe visitors can leave comments). And, free! I definitely will look into that lol.

study I've been trying to understand blaxxun's (not bitmanager's) info...

As far as I can understand, you need a static server IP for running any of those licenses (it is licensed for one adress). Am I right ?

Other thing :

Blaxxun's free-demo-public-server bw was/will be again a gift they do - with who knows what final purposes... As such, they can give us the kick how often and how long they want to... But somehow they should have been much more polite this time and try to inform before and during shutdown to the community.

I guess the GPL solution mentioned in Cyworx would be the best one.

All that I do, I do on my own-- that's my fun in doing it!

As you may have seen, I have studied the acceptible techniques of meta-tag usage, and I have applied them to the max in these pages for over two years to get this far. And, I know the advantage of early link placement.

Invisible links (using coloured text to mask keywords etc.) are under-handed and frowned upon, and so, suggesting that I authorize or appreciate the usage of a theoretical 60, would tend to tarnish my otherwise "spotless reputation" Laughing

Hi All

Long time since I wrote here.

Presently, I am gradually developing
ATLANTIS
and X-FILES
into "games" (online, as often as possible). Idea
(in blaxxun list) using "HUDs"
and, perhaps, tomorrow, "layers".

I hope eventually to simulate control consoles / dashboards (without looking at Vcard's Grand Prix source) for vehicles that visitors can drive through these and other worlds. Wink

jicer told me he was using layers nodes in VRML,
so I thought, if he can do it, maybe I can too. Shocked

So I tried them, and they are so easy What a Face (easier than HUDs even)-- argh, how did I not see that before! Embarassed

Keep on Building!

By this time, I have had so much fun learning to use some advanced VRML nodes called "protos", that I have decided to develop a series that explores my own "X-plorations".

#1 DRAG&DROP MAGIC is the first of a series of docs by Colin James McKinlay ("X") weitten for builders who experiment with VRML and blaxxun for the sheer love of it (and, I already know a few). Its focus is a VRML proto example* by Holger Grahn as presented at Peter Graf / Tamiko's Mission Base website.

#1 GLISSER-DÉPOSER est la première d'une série des docs par Colin James McKinlay ("X") adapté vers les constructeurs qui expérimentent avec le VRML / blaxxun pour l'amour de lui (et, je connais déjà quelques uns). I myself (for those who "do not know" me) do not make chat-venues -- some directory-makers and chatroom developers may regard with reservation my usages of these protos and nodes. Artists and game-developers however might find them interesting.

-- #1 is spectacular in that dragging and dropping textures allows you to change my world's look and feel without changing its relative viewer juxtipositioning (ie. the viewer does not start over at the entry point with each change).

-- #1 est spectaculaire parce que le "glisser-déposer" des textures vous permet de changer le regard et la sensation du mon monde sans changer sa visionneuse "juxtipositionant" relatif (que la visionneuse ne commence pas plus d'au point d'entrée avec chaque changement)

-- But, it is just a trick. The illusion is that you are repainting the entire scene; but, actually you are dragging & dropping one whole world upon another, one new texture (jpg) with all the same source over and over again. Therefore, as visually magical as this way of using Grahn's proto can be, there is a price to pay in lag proportionate to each consecutive world added.

-- Mais, il est juste un tour. -- Perhaps methods exist to rectify this. Perhaps my wrls are not optimized sufficiently. Perhaps Mr. Grahn's proto was never meant to be tasked such a scale. Building worlds with VRML is always a balancing act-- that makes it fun.

-- So, this D&D proto is very, very cool (and just one of many thanx to blaxxun)-- I am happy to be showcasing it here.

-- P.S. My favourite walk is from "Spider Cove" into the "Dragon Cave". There, click on the Dragon Hearth (the fire-box) for Temple transport. Do that 10 times with 10 textures, and you will know how much fun I had enhancing this world with Mr. Grahn's proto example*.

Yes, it is brilliant. I happened upon it about a year ago and was blown away. I had no idea that shockwave was used that way. Took me in a whole new direction.
