Basically a buddy means you can see when they are online, and more usefully teleport to them no matter which world they are in.

Just went up tonight and now the F2 and F9 commands work. So now you can get to viewpoints and movement settings, etc.

Now that ExitReality was launched, I found that it has some flaws may bad for us.
I think that the recognition of authors can be improved. My critic and possible ways to solve this are here expressed:

Basically it says that as any url can be embedded with just a special link, many businesses may use your vrml world for them without asking you. By the nature of small worlds opposed to communities, the worlds in ExitReality are much more vulnerable to this than in Blaxxun.

Take it as constructive criticism. I like ExitReality and would like all this fixed.

I fear that many unscrupulous businesses and people may use your material commercially without crediting you or sharing any revenue.

I agree with Jordi 100%. This kind of "cavalier" attitude about others creations is one of the things that started the content discussion on WBandD and continues to be discussed. It is one thing to offer them as places to go while giving credit to the creator or at least aknowledging honestly where it came from, it is completely another to re-name it, which gives the appearence of being their own attraction. I too like Exit Reality and would like to see it grow, but not at the expense of the original creators. It will be sad if some of these people pull their worlds down because of this. That will be a loss to everyone.

Anyway, I found a bug I couldn't solve was caused by something in BS Contact. Only found out when it worked perfectly in ExitReality.

btw way I had time to read yesterday , comeing back from Paris , all you wrote here about ER ...

There is a buzz about all that in all the forums and blogs etc I read ,

and I guess that these crazy ppl on ER will change their manner or they are fools !!

I can't realize where they found a such stupid idea to embed all these worlds without permission !!!

I went to ER first time yesterday night to have an opinion, as everybody is speaking about it, and to be documented for our "ressources" Wink
I supose it was too late for my mind cause i dint found how to change an av an got lost in water lol ! There were other peoples but all those who wanted to speak were newbies too.
So i didnt found a lot of external world, except Argenzio's forest, perhaps they have cancelled the others as many people asked.
Anyway i'll try again this evening, perhaps i'll be more lucky Smile

They have changed some things but have not removed anything. Just enter by Argenzio's world and click the "Search" button. The search engine opens and if you scroll the bar, all the worlds are there.

Also, if you search something, you may find that almost all the vrml and bxx worlds we know is there too.

It is important that whatever you do, do it together. I mean, if you go to claim one by one, ER may not listen too much. But if all together request them to change, they will listen.

Also, if you consider you must make a legal claim or a public claim in some website or to their emails, it's also good that you make it together.

ER is in all web2.0 sites (Facebook, Twitter, Ning...) I can help you to locate them if you want to proceed to claim. That is not hard at all.

Before claiming, you must:
- think if you want your world/object/avatar links removed from their search engine results and website, or if you just want the author and link to your official website recognized.
- have a clear idea on why you want it.

Linking to an image in other server without permission is not legal. The same happens with your worlds. Taking copyrighted content from other site and showing it is an illegal copyrighted material distribution, unless the author allows you to do it explicitly.

The bad with ER is that they can waste your bandwidth because YOU host the files, and no one will know the worlds are yours. They are also getting great content (yours) to endorse their business, and nothing for you in return.

In my opinion, only the author should be able to link their own worlds. They could remove the ability to link to a VRML file from outside its domain/folder, and your works may be protected, and they could keep the ability to turn a normal web page into 3D.

Before taking legal actions or even sending a legal request to them, I would send them messages showing your disagreement. These messages should be polite but very clear.

I think that many of you have enough VRML knowledge to offer them alternatives that may allow them to continue their business and not harming you. ER may be good for you, just have to change and respect some things.

Again, take actions together, don't act individually or dis-coordinated.

Another thing I've just found, it completely ignore no_cache folders or directives (eg php headers). What a pain, not even possible to protect some content any more, everything gets saved to the cache folder.

I think the following would be a reasonable list of things to fix:

1. Members have to have a certain website in your profile before you can edit it (solves the people listing the worlds of others, and also the "is this your site y/n popup)
2. The auto add to search list on worlds is a pain, it should at least ask if you wish to publicly list a world. For example, if your testing a world you don't want listed yet.
3. Put no_cache back, some content relies on it.
4. Have a "visit author's home page" link in ER interface.
5. Some way to report content you don't wish linked in ER.
6. Perhaps ER should consider mirroring popular content, with the authors permission.

I was thinking about a text with the good arguments ,
we could send by mail to builders , or post where we want , forums etc ,
to ask bulders to "sign it"
Then sending it to ER ..

but to write the text , I thought of you , and or of fabricator, or Omind , or who wants to write it to have the builders OK with ...

in french it is called a pétition ...

Request sent to web3d consortium to alter x3d specification so that sending valid referrer and User-Agent to the server is required. This would mean that programs that don't meet this requirement become non-spec compliant and hence can no longer use the x3d logo Cool

Just about everything out there in the way of x3d and vrml apps doesn't send the proper http headers, so you can't for instance block vrmlpad, ExitReality or a particular site that's been hotlinking content.

That's a good start. And hopefully ER is at least reading the posts on AVW and such.

As an aside, I had to reinstall it, D#mn thing quit working, and when installed, the client will open collada files just like BS contact opens X3D/Vrml.

It should work like a normal search engine, anything in the list has a link to the site itself.

Not sure how you would do the same for content already in 3d.
