New Platform

Take a look a Oddessey. It looks like they are using the BS Collaborate server platform now. Definately NOT Blaxxun anymore.

Yes, Blaxxun are dead, hence not possible to get a new license for Platform 7. So Oddessey have been forced onto the new platform, it was either that or shut down for good.

The site now works in IE, but you have to install BS Contact 7.1 for it to work.

there is a way to log in but I can't find one to register ...

I was there 2 or 3 times years ago , but no idea what was my username .


ps : have they the sh**** logo , or not ??

There is no signup option, that should be on the list of things to do actually.

No I didn't even know they were working on it. I have no idea what code they have added, its all encrypted.

If I was working on it the chat text would have been fixed by now, sadly this is the way it comes from Bitmanagement.

No joke : encryption might have been one of the things changing VRML's fate ... into good or into worse? That is the (old) question.

Once I did read at Oddy's page something like "Tony, a true VRML guru, has joined the team." ... and "Tony" + "VRML guru" did sound very much like Parisi... sorry.

Now I assume that this other Tony must also be a VRML guru.

Hi Tony, welcome and congrats for the new platform. I know it's a lot of work!!!

I am having some problems with my eyes which will be fixed soon, I hope, but meanwhile I am using window's high contrast setting (for those with similar probs : shift + alt + print screen).

Of course, this setting does not have any effect on the chat-text hud inside the scene... but could there be a way to darken the text-background and lighten-up the text itself? Or ... may be enlarge it all ....

Like it is now I can't read absolutely nothing of the chat-text, and probably some people will find it at least difficult to read.

I know it's not a priority, but put it on the list of things to do, please.

Hi there,
thanks for the welcome

The plan has been for the interface to be customisable, the problem is finding the time to do everything! Because people are used to the features from Blaxxun I am building most of those back into the system, such as the homes, clubs, jobs, etc. Some of the less useful features may be postponed until there is a real need for them (such as voting) or until the other new features (secret ) are ready.

For the actual chat boxes there will be the ability to change the fonts, change the actual window size by dragging it larger or smaller, as well as dragging it into a different position on screen.

All the settings are stored in the user profile so once you have set them on one PC you can log in from any other PC and they are applied again so you don't have to worry about changing all the settings every time if you log in from different PCs.

All feedback is welcome on it, just keep it clean!

We aren't publishing the server interface at the moment - it is still changing on a regular basis while we work on the features. But if anyone wants to submit any worlds they can leave that to me to add in, and it will also be encrypted when we add it to the community.

I'm not putting very stringent technical requirements on the worlds, we aren't really supporting dial-up now so restrictions on world sizes etc have been lifted, we have some worlds around the 5-10MB mark with all the textures included. Best thing to do is send it over and I can see how well it performs on the server, if necessary we can resize textures etc if the world is too slow to load. We will also give them a quick run around to make sure the numbers of polys won't make machines explode

As far as shared events are concerned I am going to be giving most worlds a scrubbing over to make sure all events are shared pretty soon so I can add these as appropriate. Also if there is currently Blaxxun code for their community server in the world I can replace this.

I saw your screenshot, did the panel only have one icon in it when you logged in? It should have a whole host of them like the one in this picture.

I think it looks great so far. Looks like it is going to be good. I am in it now (2/28/09 - 9:03 Pacific time), and there is no upper panel and no icons. Just FYI. I have great hope for you guys as iit will prove, yet again, that VRML & X3D are NOT DEAD. I noticed, Tony, that you joined WBandD but when I went up to approve the membership, it wasnt there.
