| Hi Alain, Isa, Jicer and All I have just uploaded 2.127: www.seamless3d.com/download This version has a new specialised build node, the NurbsLathe Anyone who likes using the BezierLatheBuild should also like the new NurbsLathe because it has a lot of similarities in how you use it. What is good about the NurbsLathe is the control points are closer to the curve they control which makes it much easier to control when you need curves going in and out a number of times. What is also good about this node is it is very easy to convert to a NurbsPatch by simply right clicking on the node in the scene tree and selecting "convert to patch" If used only as a lathe it should is very good but it does not replace the BezierLatheBuild because they both have strengths and weaknesses If you are interested in reading more on this subject see: http://www.seamless3d.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=1694#1694 | |

| Great work, Alain. The "herbes" world is very "Seamless"... yesss, could be Thyme's . Congrats also for Thyme : seems like Seamless did learn texturizing. The way textures are coexisting with those lovely "color by vertex" is amazing... sorry if I'm saying nonsense ... Sooner or later I must get into Seamless, seriously. | |

| Hi Alain, Isa, Peter, js1boys, Jacinto and All Sorry I have taken so long to reply to all of your very interesting experiments you have posted which demonstrate the new NurbsLathe Alain. For others who don't already know you can see some of my comments already expressed to some of Alain's NurbsLathe experiments here: http://www.seamless3d.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=203&sid=9f6985e5e143281bf93ba9ba47fcc5c8 Your strawberry looks very nice and I see you have in the wrl a combination of color per vertex and a texture. I don't think VRML specifies what is meant to happen when this is done but I guess DirectX does . I see the texture is using the default texture map for VRML (when no texture coordinates are given). Have you tried seamless's TextureMapper Alain? this node plugs into the Stem node and allows for one to apply a texture to the flat triangles before they are curved by the NurbsPatch into shape. This technique allows one to apply a wrap around texture which is different to projecting the texture after the object has been made which is how VRML's default texture mapping is done. The advantages of using the TextureMapper for a strawberry at the "flat stage" is you wont have any severe distortion in your texture at the sides where the map gets stretched when being projected. That is you get a more evenly distributed texture applied to your object. The TextureMapper can also be used for projection a texture map which is good for things like applying a face to an avatar but the TextureMapper offers more control over how this is done. For example if you apply a texture of a face to a mesh used for a head using VRML's default texture map you won't only get a face on the front of your head you also get a face on the back! where as when using a TextureMapper node to project the texture map you can restrict the texture only to the front and use a different texture map for the back. The robot demo: "texture object demo" (shown in the help menu) shows how to use a TextureMapper at the flat stage. This demo uses a BezierLathe plugged into a Stem node but its exactly the same as when using a NurbsPatch plugged into a Stem node which is what you get when you convert a NurbsLathe to a patch. | |

Sorry Alain, Its not the TextureEffect and NurbsPatch that are incompatible, it is the TextureEffect and ColorSweep that are I am afraid. Before adding a TextureEffect node you will have to first delete the ColorSweep. Also you may not see any triangles until you plug in a TextureMapper. This means you wont be able to use a combination of color per vertex and textures (sorry about this) but you will have a lot of control over your textures this way. | |

| Subject: BendyLathe, more NURBS & draggable ColorSweep for 2.128 Sat 26 Jan - 19:06 | |
| Hi Alain, Isa, Magnus, Jicer, Peter and All Thanks for all your support for the NurbsLathe and the NurbsPatch Alain, I hope you and others will have fun with this new exciting variation, the BendyLathe node developed for 2.128: Open Source Seamless3d 2.128 (including French and English versions) is available for download from: http://www.seamless3d.com/download To get acquainted with the new BendyLathe node, create a new seamless file, select the part node and click on the BendyLathe icon from the horizontal toolbar and then play with the bendy lathe by dragging the control points. When the showRingControlPoints is checked, the control points that define the lathe shape (except for the length and bend) are displayed and when unchecked the control points that bend and stretch the lathe are displayed. When the ring control points are displayed, only the control points for the selected ring will be displayed but any ring can be selected by clicking on any ring's corner (typically a ring will actually be a rectangle). A ring can be slid along the central bendy curve by dragging the yellow control point that is displayed in the centre of the ring. Don't worry if this sounds horribly abstract to understand because you will learn best how to use the bendy lathe node by playing with the different control points while showRingControlPoints is checked and while showRingControlPoints is unchecked. See what happens when you click on any of the rectangle ring corners when showRingControlPoints is checked. A NurbsLathe can be converted to a BendyLathe by right clicking on the node's icon in the scene tree window and selecting "convert to bendy". Same as for a NurbsLathe , a BendyLathe can be converted to a NurbsPatch by right clicking on the node's icon in the scene tree window and selecting "convert to patch". Also it is now possible to convert a BezierLathe, SphereBuild, TorusBuild, ConeBuild, CylinderBuild, RectangleBuild or a, BoxBuild to a NurbsPatch by right clicking on the node's icon in the scene tree window and selecting "convert to patch". Converting a specialised build node to a NurbsPatch not only allows for models to be further tugged to create more interesting shapes, it also allows shapes to be textured and allows for the triangles to be structured more efficiently. The ColorSweep node at last now has control points which makes it much easier to see where a color begins and ends in the color list. The control points apply to both straight and spherical modes. A new field named "add" has been added to the stem node. When checked the stem node adds the triangles it generates to a part without deleting any triangles that are already contained in the part. This can allow for a sequence of stem nodes to add triangles to a single part node without needing an extra temporary Part or any extra build nodes (such as CopyParts) to perform the procedure. Thanks to Bumpy's help the memory leaks that showed up in some of the demos have been fixed. A number of other bugs have been fixed too | |
