- In my view, much of what currently ails Cybertown has
little or nothing to do with technical aspects. While Cybertown rightfully earned its place as the "Grandfather of blaxxun VR sites" at one time, the lack of an expansive mentality in continuing community development has, to a limited degree, contributed to an apathy among the populace.
At one time, there was a spirit of chicanery almost always present in the city, almost a party atmosphere, whenever you visited. It was fun!
For whatever reasons (and I do have my theories about this), that spirit has dwindled away. Those who were the prime instigators of this spirit have either moved to other things voluntarily or, in some cases that I personally know about, they were "encouraged" to leave. This fact put a damper on others who might have wished to continue the spirit, allowing a spirit of malaise to take its place.
It's too bad that this has happened to a city which was, at one time, so vibrant. Technically, even by blaxxun standards, this city has progressed very little in the past five or six years that I have been associated with it, while some other blaxxun communities have been aggressively innovative in their thinking. While CT has talked about these innovations, some of their competitors have adopted them.
One site has even interconnected a roadway system from their Plaza to their colonies and neighborhoods, with even streets and blocks where you can find the outsides of your homes. You can walk in VR along streets on which, during RL nighttime hours, street lights are glowing and little parks scattered among the neighborhoods.
All of these things are possible with blaxxun. They have already been done! While the rest of the VR world has advanced, Cybertown has ended up sitting on its laurels. Little blips aren't going to solve the larger issues here.
It saddens me that this has happened. But, for CT to do more than simply limp along like an ancient, it has to set its eyes on new horizons and aggressively pursue them. It takes more than talk from corporate leadership to get that done. It takes action!
Nuff said. Cybertown won't die because of this. But, while it may continue to receive its due respect as a pioneer in Blaxxun VR, continuation of its current path can only result in its abdication of the leadership position which it grasped at its inception. ***R. Charles Kemp

- While there are a considerable number of us, old
veterans of Cybertown, who have an appreciation of the place and what it represents, we have to realize that there are those who have not experienced the rich history of the city and the legacy which so many of our efforts represents in what they see today.
New potential residents only see the here and now--and then compare it to what is being offered by other, similar, competing sites. If that comparison leaves us wanting, we lose out on gaining that new resident. This is especially true now that the site has become a pay one. If you're going to be paying for something, most people want to know what they'll get for their money. There has to be something there for them to want. Most of us didn't join Cybertown because it was something which we "needed." Instead, it was something which we wanted! With more competition out there now, you have to offer more in order to get people to "wanna" buy! Simple as that!
To become once again pre-eminent in the Virtual Reality marketplace, we are required to become visionaries, pushing out the boundaries, and to engage in "possibility thinking." Dare to dream! Then ask, "Will this work?"
One of the most memorable quotes which has stuck in my memory came from Robert Kennedy in 1968, only minutes before he was gunned down by an assassin, when he said, "Some men see things as they are and ask why? I see things as they could be and ask, why not?" --- Anakin-
