I dont understand why these chat logs are in public ,

you could find them from google ,

but I like blaxxun worlds since 2002 ...

I know that fabricator and others are angry about how they manage their server ,
and they are true ,

but I can't blame them .......may be I am stupid ,

I can't blame them because I had been very Happy there ,
I don't want to go to some community .. to Second Life ,
etc ,

I like that they keep their server free and still working ,
( most of the time , LOL )

btw it was on / about the blaxxun community server , and I was unable to find all I wrote on blaxx with my dear friends in 2002 , 2003 , 2004 , 2005 etc

they are very excited speaking about how vrml life and CT life is going ..

Probably this person is right : 3D online communities running on a game console or using high end game engines might finally put an end to the life of VRML based chat...

As he says, it needs a lot of $$$ :

1) you need the engine, the client the server (not being just a bit of script)
2) you need very good sceneries (worlds)
4) you need enough of such sceneries (worlds)
5) you need expensive PR actions for having your money back asap

A million dollar deal, may be, if Blaxxun or CT or both want to get a piece of the huge corporation's shares... sad thing, if we consider, that they where first.

Anyway I wonder how far people are interested in 3D chat at all. I hardly know a few people world-wide (including You), devoted to 3D-Chat. No one of the people I meet day by day have ever been to a 3D-Chat, and it does not seem to me as if they will ever do.

But, okay, VRML is no longer usefull for CT ... they must know it. But sadly I am afraid that this decision comes to late.

As said : I don't even think that a new 3D-chat will ever pay back it's expenses...

Let's have a look at something really booming now (SL is a joke, compared to that) : YouTube

Is you tube only about sharing videos? Is YouTube's success based on the quality of the displayed clips?

For the sake of VRML and for our own mental health, probably we should start figuring out a new concept of VRML based multiuser experience, first of all removing the words "chat" out of it's name, second taking advantage out of the whole amount of existing VRML works all over the web, third taking advantage out of the fact, that it's suitable as well for amateur as for high - if not highest - quality creations, and last because it embedds so well into a web-page.

Anyway, as long as there are VRML/X3D browsers available for the currently sold O.S. they will be allways a way of expression and 3D visualization on the web, not just for amateur (word related with "love") builders, but also for students, scientists, etc.

Just consider VRML as if it was just another format or codec for sharing and displaying or playing media on web-sites, like jpeg or flash or mpeg ...

But far beyond most of that formats, VRML's and X3D's EAI and SAI provide the needed interactivity and it's scripting functionality does provide whole bunch of dynamics.

Honestly, I don't think that there is yet another content authoring format for web based visual media, as cheap and powerfull as VRML/X3D.

But , as I know about art , there are a few persons entering a galerie of contemporary art ..
It is just an example LOL ..

Same for reading poetry etc ...

So ..I accept that ..a few ..will go on a server to create by their own ...

World and life is like that , no ?

and I guess that it is the biggest reason why some communities are more popular than other ones .

And vrml was for me a new nice tool to learn about and "create" with .

... well, you did also use the #3. And you're still using it.

You have also used VRML for teaching. What better example for the benefits of VRML or X3D.

I guess nobody is singing a requiem for VRML, because VRML is there, in the Web, a zillion times (ask Jokina).

CT's late urge for a new plattform is more related to point 4. Nothing wrong with that, it's business and more or less jobs (persons!) ...

I managed to worm some information out of the bigwigs in CT, the new system will work with the existing vrml objects. No one seems to know what software though, I have my doubts its Flux Server but you never know.

3D chat on its own is useless, at least for making money or attracting lots of people. CT at least has shops, houses, messageboards, all intergrated together. This is why its not deserted.

The reason youtube works are:
1) its easy to use
2) it actually works
3) its easy to put your own stuff on there.

CT has #3 at least, but bxx isn't easy to use (even just the chat), and as for the crashes. Hardly anyone left in 3d in Cybertown anymore, which is sad but a result of microsoft's constant fiddling with security patches.

This is why I don't see my point in ABNet, it doesn't add any new features that bxx chat doesn't already have. There is no sense of community there (the pphpBB forum doesn't count).
